And this is how we find primes. xclite

I got sick of having a slow and naive prime finding solution, so I created a generator that will give me the primes up to a given N. It's definitely a lot faster than my previous solution. It definitely leaves room for improvement. The current version makes use of Ruby's Array.reject method, which deletes any elements from an Array if the sent block evaluates to true. I prefer to call them primality-challenged, reject sounds so demeaning. Continue Reading…

Zune HD preorders xclite

It would appear that Microsoft's newest music player is almost ready to be released.

After a supposed price leak reported at MaximumPC, I received an email about preordering. It seems to be available at Amazon, Bestbuy, Walmart, and the "Microsoft Store." The 16 GB version is $219.99, while the 32 GB version is $289.99. Maybe they'll actually advertise this time - the Zune has always been an excellent, feature-rich player.

Things that need accomplishing this year xclite

As this senior semester rolls around, I realize that my great fortune in acquiring a certain amount of job stability will hopefully result in some free time next semester. As such, I have compiled a list of goals for the coming year:

    1. Programming Languages
    2. C - gain an intermediate competency
    3. Clojure (or maybe Haskell) - gain a beginners or intermediate competency
    4. Ruby - gain an advanced competency, delve into graphics
    5. Ruby Processing - gain a familiarity, and if it's simple enough, intermediate competency.
    6. Ruby on Rails - gain some familiarity
    1. General Hobbies and Knowledge
    2. Become more familiar with automobiles and mechanical repair
    3. Find some place to learn to box
    1. Career stuff
    2. Get some undergraduate research experience
    3. Figure out if and where I am going to graduate school
    4. Decide between working after B.S., going to graduate school, or joining the military

And there you (and actually, I, since this is mostly here for my reference) have it. This post pretty much reinforces how much of a nerd I really am, but anybody reading this probably already knew that.
